Kemet composite lapping plates are manufactured from a homogeneous mixture of synthetic resins, metal particles and other materials. The plates are ideal for today's advanced lapping technology, especially when used with Kemet Liquid Diamond.
Standard Kemet Lapping Plates
Recommended for general and heavy-duty work where high precision flatness and surface finish are required.
- Holds diamond particles firmly, ensuring both efficient stock removal and repetitive component surface finish.
- Ductile qualities cushion the diamond particles, preventing damage to the workpiece.
- Produced in varying hardness values so that even the softest material can, without impregnation, be safely lapped with diamond particles.
- Dissipates heat and prevents laminar flow of lapped surfaces
- Easy control for optimum flatness
- Lapping/polishing plates available to fit all makes of lapping machines with plate diameters up to 3000mm
- Supplied with a cast iron backing plate for maximum stability.
These are normally supplied mounted on a cast iron backing plate for maximum stability.
Kemet Iron Lapping Plates
The most commonly used lapping plate. For general purpose stock removal and lapping applications. Excellent for stock removal and pre-polishing operations.
Kemet XP Lapping Plates
Gives improved flat polished surfaces on many materials. Mirror surfaces can often be produced on harder materials.
Kemet Copper Lapping Plates
Used to lap softer materials where fine lapping and polishing are the primary requirements.
Kemet Tin Lapping Plates
One of the softest Kemet lapping plates used for mirror polishing with fine grades of Kemet Liquid Diamond.
Kemet Ceramic Lapping Plates
One of the hardest Kemet Lapping Plates. Used for special applications often where a cleaner lapping process is required.
Kemet FP Plates
A replacement for the Kemet Lead/Tin Plate, the Kemet FP Plate gives good stock removal, whilst producing high quality surface finish and flatness with Kemet Diamond Slurry.
Lapping Plate Grooving
Lapping plates can be supplied grooved to suit specific applications such as square, spiral and concentric.
Kemet Annular Grooved Plates
These plates are designed for precision shoulder lapping of a wide range of parts, such as fuel pump gear faces and pressure relief valve caps. Groove width and depth of plates need to be specified when ordering.
Cast Iron Hand Lapping Plates
Hand Lapping Plates are suitable for laboratory, toolroom or maintenance workshops and can be used for lapping parts to extreme flatness in low volumes.
These plates are made from high quality, low porosity grey cast iron (Grade 300 to BS1452) and are usually serrated with a square cross-hatched pattern. Solid (unserrated) hand lapping plates are available for use with very small workpieces.
These are used with an abrasive grit, applied in paste form to give a uniform dull matt finish on a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic materials. Three standard sizes of plate are available (Other sizes available upon request):
|6” (150mm)||Cross Hatched||361021|
|8” (200mm)||Cross Hatched||360835|
|12” (300mm)||Cross Hatched||360198|
|18” (457mm)||Cross Hatched||360707|
|24” (610mm)||Cross hatched||361029|
Soft Metal Alloy Hand Polishing Plates
Alloy polishing plates are for use with diamond abrasives, either in paste or spray form, to produce polished surfaces on components.
The plate is made of a lead-based white metal conforming to BS3332/F. This is a lead / tin / antimony alloy with traces of other metals and is an ideal soft metal matrix for diamond grains.
A small charging block is provided to load the soft metal surface with diamond abrasive. This is an essential step in preparing the lap plate prior to polishing. Two sizes of plate are available:
Cast Iron Lapping Plates
We offer a wide range of cast iron lapping plates to suit most lapping machines. Available in 15", 24", 36" serratted or solid. Other sizes available on request.
